== The Colonies Declare Independence In Philidelphia on the night of July 4th, 1776, Thomas Jefferson gathered a committee to declare our independence from Britian. Together they wrote, and signed, a document which they call the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration of Independence was written to declare to the king that we the colonists no longer wanted to be a part of Great Britain. We no longer want to deal with taxation without representation, not having a good enough army, and breaking up the houses of representatives. Although not everything Jefferson wrote was exactly 'accurate', he did what had to in his attempt to persuade King George III. The Declaration of Independence is a document written declaring independence from British rule. This document was written because Americans don't want to be ruled by Britian any longer. The document basically says, " The people of America do not want to live under rule of a country across the ocean. These people want to make a new country out of their land." They want to break off because the government is ufair. The king tried to take away rights, put Americans in jail for no reason, tax without representation, and he does not give respect to us. The Declaration was written in the nearby city of Philidelphia. It was recently approved in the Pennsylvania State House. Jefferson gathered his committee in the Independence Hall. It's hard to believe this happened so fast.
Many of you may be wondering, how did they do it? If you are, here is your answer. Thomas Jefferson invited multiple men from New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. They all came together and brainstormed how to word their declaration of independence. Although Thomas Jefferson 'perfected' the document in his point of view, he is not the only mastermind behind it.
As we all know, King George III has recently sent troops to the colonies while there is not even war. That same man that punished him also declared independence from Britain; Thomas Jefferson. Thomas Jefferson has done a lot for the colonies so far to try to get our independence. Just two days ago he gathered a committee consisting of John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Robert Livingston, Roger Sherman, and John Hancock to officially declare independence. The document was started in early June shortly after the Revolutionary War. In late June, Jefferson finished the Declaration. Just a couple days ago, on July 2nd, the continental congress met. For what, you may ask? Well, nothing other than gaining our independence. The continental congress, including Thomas Jefferson, voted to make sure everyone on the comittee was on the same page. Just two nights ago, July 4th, the committee gathered again and signed the document.Although many Americans do not agree with the document because many do not want to disobey the law, this document has definitely caught the eye of every American. This could potentially change our lives forever.Reported By: Rachel Belville, Liz Ignatious, and Cydney Howard
